Ann Clements
Associate Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs & Director of the Center for Faculty Development and Advancement
Ann Clements, Ph.D., is Associate Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and director of the Center for Faculty Development and Advancement at Penn State. In this role, she leads university-wide professional development initiatives for over 6,000 faculty across all campuses, focusing on new and mid-career faculty success, promotion and tenure, leadership development, mentorship, and retention. She also oversees the Administrative Fellows program, the Penn State Laureate program, the Big Ten Academic Alliance Department Executive Officers (DEO) program, and the Penn State Emeritus Academy.
A professor of music education, Clements previously served as head of the music education program and graduate program chair and is the founder and former director of Penn State’s Center for Pedagogy in Arts and Design (C-PAD). Her scholarship centers on music participation, arts integration, professional educator development, and emerging technologies in teaching and learning. An internationally recognized scholar and presenter, she is the author and editor of several books, including Field Guide to Student Teaching in Music, Alternative Approaches in Music Education, and Popular Music Pedagogies: A Practical Guide. She is the recipient of numerous honors, including the 2018 Penn State Impact Award and the 2015 Open Innovation Challenge for her work in artificial intelligence and virtual reality. She is also a recognized ethnomusicologist in the Māori music of New Zealand.
