This training introduces faculty to the importance of accessibility in teaching and learning and the core principles that support inclusive course materials. Participants will explore essential accessibility practices (such as using headings, descriptive links, alternative text for images, properly structured lists and tables, sufficient color contrast, and clear language) to ensure course content is usable by all learners.

The session focuses on practical skills for creating accessible documents directly in Microsoft Word or Google Docs using built-in styles and tools. Faculty will learn how to structure documents with headings, add alt text to images, create accessible tables, and use Microsoft Word’s Accessibility Checker to identify and resolve common issues.

Participants will also learn how to export documents to properly tagged PDFs and avoid common mistakes (such as “Print to PDF”) that remove accessibility features. By the end of the training, faculty will be able to design course documents that meet accessibility standards and improve usability for all students.
